QNIS Chief Executive and Nurse Director to step down

Professor Clare Cable is leaving the QNIS in October to join the Burdett Trust for Nursing as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Clare joined QNIS in 2014, bringing her experience as a nursing leader in health care improvement and policy.

A children’s nurse by background, she was appointed Director of the RCN’s UK Quality Improvement Programme in 2003 and moved to Edinburgh in 2007, honing her influencing skills as a Policy Adviser.

During her time at QNIS she has raised the profile of the charity, reintroducing the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title to Scotland through a transformational clinical leadership programme.

Following the announcement, Clare said: “It has been an immensely hard decision to leave as I have so enjoyed my ten years with the charity; it has been the most fulfilling and enjoyable time of my career.

“To have led a charity where together we have created spaces for community nurses to find ways to flourish and enable the health of some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged citizens, has been a joy and a privilege.”

This provides an extraordinary opportunity for a talented nurse leader to step into the role to continue developing the identity and work of this 135-year-old pioneering community nursing charity.

Chair of QNIS Council, Erica Reid, said: “Clare has demonstrated exceptional leadership during her time at QNIS and although we are delighted that she will continue to support nurses in her new position, we will be sorry to see her go.

“The well-respected, contemporary Queen’s Nurse Development Programme is a testament to the high standards that Clare has in all her work.”

Erica added: “She leaves the charity in an excellent position for the future, and we wish Clare well in her new role.”
