A specialist practitioner district nurse has been honoured at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s staff awards.

The awards ceremony last week shone a spotlight on the incredible individuals and community teams at the Trust who are pioneering new ways of working and striving to find new ways to deliver high-quality care in the community.

Faye Grounds received the Panel’s Choice Award alongside the North East London Dental Outreach Team.

Faye was nominated by community nurse Emma Hitchin, who said: “Faye is not only an inspiring specialist nurse practitioner, she helps the team she works in everyday to support and achieve the most compassionate and knowledgeable patient focused care whilst always going above and beyond to achieve this.

“Faye specialises in end of life care, she is always compassionate and responsive to the needs of not only the patient but their family and friends as well.

“Faye inspires myself and many other members of the team to progress in our nursing careers and I feel very lucky to continue to have her as a mentor and this has supported me to feel more confident and competent every day as a newly qualified nurse.”

The ceremony was also a chance for the Trust to reflect on a year with more than 2.2 million patient contacts, including half a million children, where it treated 2,000 inpatients, reduced pressure on A&E with 185,000 people seen in its urgent care services and where it protected school-aged children with a quarter of a million vaccinations.

Chair John Goulston said: “It’s not been an easy year for our colleagues, that’s why it’s important we have the opportunity to celebrate our dedicated and caring workforce who work hard every day. Whatever role they are in, they never stop stepping up to make sure our patient care remains of a high standard and we are very proud of all those who were nominated and won an award.”
