QNI chief executive to appear in Antiques Roadshow Nursing Special

The chief executive of the Queen’s Nursing Institute will appear on a special programme of the Antiques Roadshow dedicated to Nursing.

Crystal Oldman (pictured with Antiques Roadshow expert Siobhan Tyrrell) will be among the nurses appearing in Sunday’s show which will be presented by Fiona Bruce and feature comedian and former psychiatric nurse Jo Brand.

The special episode will look at how the nursing profession has changed from the 19th century to the present day.

Filmed on location at St Thomas’ and St Bartholomew’s hospitals in London, the programme will include fascinating objects that provide insights into the history of nursing and healthcare, from medals awarded for bravery to early uniforms, cartoons and medical equipment.

The show will also feature Call the Midwife author Jennifer Worth who talks about how much of the show was drawn from her own experiences of nursing.

Militaria expert Mark Smith will meet a naval nurse who travelled to the Falklands at short notice on a cruise ship to treat wounded troops during the conflict and Ronnie Archer-Morgan will hear the story of a nurse who helped pioneer a compassionate approach to community care for people with Aids in the 1980s.

The episode will also feature inspiring stories from the Windrush generation of nurses and throw a spotlight on the careers of Betsi Cadwaladr and Mary Seacole.

The show will be aired on BBC1 at 7pm on Sunday, February 26.
