Registrations welcome for ‘educational’ continuous glucose monitoring webinar
Healthcare professionals looking to refresh their diabetes knowledge following the “pandemic brain drain” are invited to sign up for the first session of a new monthly webinar series dedicated to the subject.
Diabetes Back To Basics has been created to educate primary and secondary care professionals who want to brush up on their knowledge of all aspects of diabetes care for free.
The series will cover a range of topics in monthly 45-minute case-based webinars, followed by a live 30-minute Q&A, and is set to launch this month with an event dedicated to continuous glucose monitoring.
Dr Kevin Fernando, who is leading the webinar series, said: “This informative webinar series will help secondary and primary care teams refresh their diabetes knowledge following the pandemic brain drain, ultimately improving the lives of people living with the condition.
“We firmly believe by providing the right education and training to diabetes teams, we can improve the care we offer to the diabetes community.”
He added: “We’ve been blown away by the response we’ve had to the launch of the Diabetes Back To Basics webinar series.
“It shows how much healthcare professionals across the UK value diabetes education led by experts.”
The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent ongoing challenges in primary and secondary care have resulted in several experienced healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetes leaving the profession or retiring early.
As such we are seeing a new generation of healthcare professionals wanting to develop an interest in diabetes and allied to this is a hunger for back to basics diabetes education.
The first webinar, Back to basics: an introduction to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) & time in range for the generalist, will take place on Tuesday, February 28, from 7pm.
During the session, Dr Fernando and Diabetes Specialist Nurse Nicki Milne will take a back-to-basics approach on what the delegates need to know about continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in primary care – what is CGM, whom to initiate it for, the potential benefits and the pitfalls to avoid.
Recently, updated NICE guidelines have opened the doors to intermittently scanned and real-time CGM devices for a much wider range of people we see in primary care living with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
At the end of the webinar, delegates will have learned about:
Who is now eligible for CGM in primary care?
What are the different types of CGM and what systems are available?
What are the potential benefits of CGM and what pitfalls to avoid?
Initiation of CGM in primary care and key essentials when interpreting CGM data.
Sponsored by Dexcom, the free-to-attend online event is only open to pre-registered healthcare professionals.
